Adobe FrameMaker:  Read and Write Rules

Course Summary

To convert to and from XML correctly you need to manage read and write rules. Learn about issues that arise when converting content to and from XML and how to minimize problems. Acquire hands–on experience in the development of rules to correctly convert content to and from XML including cross–references, tables, images, conditional content and more.

Course Description

Overview: This two–day course teaches participants skills necessary to import and export XML in FrameMaker. This course is developed specifically for clients requiring creation of Read/Write rules for use with Structured FrameMaker.

Delivery: An instructor–led, group–paced, classroom–delivery learning model with structured hands–on activities and assignments.
Courses are also available for private online delivery.

Materials: Participants receive reference materials related to course topics. Follow up support by email or phone, on topics covered, is available to participants for 90 days.

Prerequisites: Adobe FrameMaker: Element Definition Documents

Further Learning: DITA: Tools and Technology Overview or WebWorks ePublisher Pro: An Introduction

  • Rename elements on import and export
  • Modify attributes and values
  • Convert images to and from XML and FrameMaker
  • Develop cross–references in FrameMaker and XML using ID attributes and values
  • Export and import tables and table related elements
  • Correctly import and export markers and marker content
  • Convert footnotes to and from FrameMaker and XML
  • Build an XML application in FrameMaker to apply a template automatically on import
  • Use an XML application to reference read and write rules for conversion to and from XML and FrameMaker
  • Configure other setting specific to the application file for conversion to and from XML and FrameMaker
