Course Summary

Developed for people who write content and manage templates. Gain hands–on experience with publishing support including book management features and develop sophisticated templates. Use Paragraph, Character and Table Designers. Manage page layouts with custom master and reference pages. Support conditional text, cross–references, generated files and more.

Course Description

Overview: This five–day course teaches participants skills necessary to auhor documents and build templates for use with Unstructured or Structured FrameMaker. This course is developed specifically for clients requiring users to author content as well as develop and maintain formatting in templates.

Delivery: An instructor–led, group–paced, classroom–delivery learning model with structured hands–on activities and assignments.
Courses are also available for private online delivery.

Materials: Participants receive reference materials related to course topics. Follow up support by email or phone, on topics covered, is available to participants for 90 days.

Prerequisites: You must have a solid working familiarity with your operating system.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion attendees will be able to:
  • Understand the FrameMaker model and its word processing and desktop publishing features
  • Recognize document level objects which are to be used in the creation of content
  • Use the Paragraph and Character Catalogs in the creation of documents and Paragraph, Character and Table Designers to add, modify or delete tags
  • Build number systems for heading, lists, tables, figures and more
  • Develop master pages with automated layout based on formats used in a document
  • Work with footnotes in text and table locations
  • Insert, modify and delete content in table heading, cells, headers and footers and merge cells
  • Work with graphics and anchored frames that are imported or created within FrameMaker
  • Insert, modify and delete cross–references, variables and running headers/footers
  • Apply and manage conditional content to build multiple file versions from a single document
  • Work with text insets to reuse content between files
  • Configure color settings for a variety of objects including text, tables and graphics
  • Work with a variety of reference pages to configure the appearance of content in standard template files and generated materials (TOC, Index and more)
  • Create PDF documents for distribution
  • Create and manage templates
