Adobe FrameMaker 7.x and 8.0:  Authoring Unstructured Documents

Course Summary

This course is developed for people who need to work with FrameMaker (using the Standard Interface) to develop content based on existing templates. Learn about its WYSIWYG authoring using a familiar word processing, style–tagging mode. Acquire hands–on experience with document publishing including book management features and the use of templates.

Course Description

Overview: This two–day course teaches participants skills necessary to author documents using FrameMaker. This course is developed specifically for clients requiring users to work with existing unstructured templates.

Delivery: An instructor–led, group–paced, classroom–delivery learning model with structured hands–on activities and assignments.
Courses are also available for private online delivery.

Materials: Participants receive reference materials related to course topics. Follow up support by email or phone, on topics covered, is available to participants for 90 days.

Prerequisites: You must have a solid working familiarity with your operating system.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion attendees will be able to:
  • Understand the FrameMaker model and its word processing and desktop publishing features
  • Recognize document level objects which are to be used in the creation of content
  • Use the Paragraph and Character Catalogs in the creation of documents
  • Apply master pages manually or automatically
  • Work with footnotes in text and table locations
  • Insert, modify and delete content in table heading, cells, headers and footers and merge cells
  • Work with graphics and anchored frames that are imported or created within FrameMaker
  • Insert, modify and delete cross–references and variables within documents and between files
  • Apply conditional settings to content
  • Work with text insets to reuse content between files
  • Configure color settings for a variety of objects including text, tables and graphics
  • Create and maintain files such as tables of contents, indices and book documents for publishing
  • Create PDF documents for distribution
